Endangered
species. These rare plants are found at high elevations on the volcanoes
of Hawaii. They exist in desert-like conditions, and are very fragile.
Botanists are attempting to propagate more of these individuals to ensure
their survival. Their remote locations are a blessing, since they have
few visitors.
