Shark fins drying in the sun

after "harvest" by the Chinese Fishing fleet,

Pohnpei, Micronesia, 1999

The crew of this fishing boat were not too happy I was there photographing their catch. Obviously they were unaware I was using a wide angle lens and was able to include them in the photo.

I had asked permission to take photos, and they declined, well aware of the controversy over shark finning. However the local Micronesian officials who control the docks stepped in and assured me I had every right to be there and to take as many photos as I liked.

The finning of sharks may not be illegal in some parts of the world, but its clearly immoral anywhere.
