Hooded
Nudibranchs, Melibe leonina clinging to bull kelp
Queen
Charlotte Strait, British Columbia, Canada, 2006
The
calm waters of Hussar Bay, off the coast of British Columbia, Canada, are
a common area to find Hooded Nudibranchs, which congregate there to mate.
Using a wide-angle lens behind a dome port, I closed in on the sea slugs
and aimed my camera upward, giving a close focus wide angle
perspective, that allowed the camera to capture the feeding behavior and
the environment, telling the whole story in a single shot. The nudibranchs
use their expandable, fringed "hood" to scoop or rake small crustaceans
towards their mouth.
