Wolf Eel (male)

Anarrhichthys ocellatus

British Columbia, Canada, 2000

One of the main reasons I keep returning to dive in the Pacific Northwest is the chance to visit with wolf eels. They are usually quite friendly, and having a face like a muppet helps endear them to most divers as well. The thick pads on their jaws allow them to crush shellfish and spiny urchins without injury.
