While
riding a shuttle bus approaching the Eielson Visitor Center on the park
road, I was captivated by the views across the valley. The stark beauty
of the tundra valleys and the weathered mountain slopes gave off a painterly,
abstract quality.
As
soon as we stopped, I shouldered my tripod & camera bag and headed
away from the road on the nearest trial I could find. Using a zoom lens,
I experimented with compositions that would tell the ecological story
of the mountain & season while still retaining some elements of
abstraction.
While
most people come to the park to see the wildlife, the ecology, plant
succession, and geology of this place are equally fascinating.
