Title: "Pele's Pause"

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, April, 2001

TOTAL EDITION: 200

SIZE: 11.5" X 16.5"

(29 cm X 42 cm)

This is an image of active "ropy" Pahoehoe Lava which has paused in its advance. The outer layers have begun to cool, while the still molten lava shines red thru the gaps in the ropy folds. Eventually this cooling crust was split open by the inflating liquid underneath, and the flow continued its advance toward the sea.
