I
shot this image on a repeat dive to this cave located on Los Islotes,
near La Paz. I got the idea for the shot on my first visit, but there
were so many divers and sea lions in the water it was impossible to
shoot. When we returned another day, I went directly into the cave with
Ninette to make the image. But the pups had other ideas...
When we arrived in the cave, they ignored her and put all their attention
on me, pulling my hair, fins, and the cords on my strobes. Finally one
pup took an interest in Ninette, and I started shooting. The original
plan was 5 minutes and we're done, but in reality it took 20. I remember
thinking of the old show biz saying, "never work with animals".
