Hikers along the Hamakua Ditch Trail to the top of the back edge of Waipio Valley, Big Island of Hawaii, 2001

This fantastic hike takes you past the Hamakua ditch irrigation system, along bamboo forests, and up to the very edge of the 2000 foot deep Waipio Valley. The trail then continues, skirting along the cliff edge. For the best views across the valley, go early in the morining. This hike is described in Hawaii the Big Island Revealed, a guidebook I highly recommend for visitors to the Big Island.
