Scuba Diver hovering in "Leru Cut",

far western Solomon Islands, 2000

This image took second place in the 2001 Skin Diver Magazine "Cover Shot Contest" with 37% of the votes.

The site is a large crack penetrating the side of an island. The image was shot in existing light, from the back of this giant crack. Metering was tricky, so I bracketed my exposures to be sure I got at least one keeper.

The back of the cut has a surface access to the jungle on the island, and allegedly a crocodile is often there. We looked for it, but it wasn't there at the time.
